How Long Does a Brazilian Wax Take?

We love the clean, sleek look of Brazilian waxing. Removing body hair is personal, for sure. But, if you want to remove all the hair “down there,” regular waxing is a must!

Self-care is essential, but we don’t all live lives of leisure that provide endless time for it. For those on a schedule, understanding the time commitment waxing takes matters.

You certainly don’t want your esthetician to rush through removing unwanted hair from intimate areas. Going in for a full Brazilian wax shouldn’t take long, especially if you’re a regular.

Never fear! Today we’re discussing how best to prepare and what to expect from the process. Let’s explore the ins and outs of waxing!

How to prepare for your Brazilian wax

Getting ready for a Brazilian wax session isn’t complicated. When you take the right steps beforehand, the process is smoother and more effective.

Make sure your skin is exfoliated

Proper exfoliation is one of the pillars of healthy skin. Removing dead skin cells from the surface gives your skin a chance to breathe! During waxing, keratinized cells are broken down and removed along with the hair. While this promotes new skin growth, doing maintenance before your session makes a difference.

We love an exfoliating scrub or mitt in intimate areas because you control the pressure. Between 24 to 48 hours before your appointment is the best time for exfoliation. Keeping your skin healthy provides better results from your session.

Have your hair at the proper waxing length

If you regularly remove body hair with other methods, let it grow! Waxing requires your hair at around ¼ inch before your appointment. Hairs removed by waxing come out by the root, but if it’s not long enough, the strands may break below the surface. When that happens, ingrown hairs are the result.

Give yourself two full weeks of growth ahead of your Brazilian for best results. Once you’ve established a regular waxing schedule, your hair growth cycle will even out. At this point, you’ll start seeing results last longer. Depending on your hair growth rate, a Brazilian could last up to six weeks!

Come in clean and showered

It should go without saying but coming to your intimate wax appointment clean is a must. Showering ahead of time cleans any dirt or oils off the surface of your skin that get in the way of the process.

A few hours before your session, take a regular shower. This allows your skin to dry completely and return to normal. Don’t use lotion after you bathe because it gets in the way of the wax. With open pores and soft skin, your wax technician has the perfect canvas to work on!

brazilian wax time

What to expect from your Brazilian wax

When it comes to your body, you’re the expert. For your first Brazilian wax, your esthetician will focus on making you comfortable. Discussions at that time will center on how you want your hair to look. Some prefer a small strip of hair left, and others like everything gone.

It’s okay for you to experiment with different styles of waxing. Bikini waxing takes less hair and less time, so it’s an excellent place to start if you’re nervous about removing all the hair. Remember, you can always take off more hair but can’t put it back!

The wax should not take too much time

Since intimate waxing focuses on one area, the process shouldn’t take too long. First-timers may experience a longer session, up to 30 minutes. Regulars may only take 15 minutes to achieve their aesthetic goals.

Waxing may be painful depending on your pain tolerance

Pain is part of the hair removal process, however you choose to do it. Because waxing removes hairs quickly from the root, discomfort is common. If you have a high pain tolerance, it might only sting briefly.

For extremely sensitive clients, hard wax is a must. Hard waxes don’t stick to the skin, only the hair, and don’t cause as much pain when removed. You can also take an ibuprofen an hour before your appointment to take the edge off.

Either way, smooth skin at the end is worth the discomfort.

Your hair and skin type can affect how long your session lasts

Thin, sparse hair is one of the benefits of regular waxing. Over time, your hairs grow back softer, and waxing is faster and easier. Those with particularly dense or coarse body hair should expect a longer appointment. Your technician will take more time to ensure a comfortable and thorough experience.

Hot weather stimulates hair growth, so expect to book more regular sessions during the summer months.
